Why you should avoid doomscrolling

(WKBN) – Endlessly scrolling on your phone to decompress? The habit known as doomscrolling may actually be doing more harm than good.

Doomscrolling can fuel stress, anxiety and even disrupt sleep.

Cleveland Clinic psychologist Adam Borland suggests starting with setting screen time limits and using an alarm to signal when your screen time is up.

After the alarm goes off, try to do something more positive for your mental health, like going for a walk or starting a new hobby.

When engaging in screen time, doctor borland says to be mindful of how you’re feeling.

“It’s important to check in with yourself, right?” said Dr. Adam Borland, a psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic. “As you begin scrolling, am I noticing, oh, I’m, you know, all of a sudden, I’ve got a headache or muscle tension, or, you know, I’m just not feeling well. My body is trying to communicate something to me.”

If you do start feeling off, Doctor Borland recommends switching up the content you’re watching or taking a break from your phone.
