Worker critically injured after 50-foot fall at Acrisure Stadium
PITTSBURGH, PA – A worker was critically injured Saturday night after falling about 50 feet inside Acrisure Stadium, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Emergency crews responded around 10 p.m. to reports of a fall on the North Shore. Fire, EMS, and police arrived to find that the man had fallen from the back side of the stadium’s main scoreboard to a catwalk below.
Medics reached the worker, stabilized him, and used a rope and basket system to lower him to safety. He was then taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition with serious injuries, mainly to his lower body.
The fall occurred while crews were preparing the stadium for Sunday’s NFL game between the Packers and the Giants, according to a statement provided by Acrisure Stadium to KDKA. The worker had been installing production equipment when the incident happened.
KDKA-TV observed an increased presence of broadcast crew members from the “Sunday Night Football” team at the scene.
Police used drones to document the area where the fall occurred. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
