Fisherman dies after falling into Lake Erie near Edgewater Park: Fire officials
CLEVELAND (WJW) – A fisherman has died after Cleveland investigators said he fell into Lake Erie on Tuesday evening.
According to the Cleveland Division of Fire, firefighters responded to the area of Edgewater Park around 8:15 p.m. after reports that someone had fallen into the water just east of the fishing pier.
Witnesses told emergency crews that the fisherman was seen struggling in 4-foot to 6-foot waves.
Investigators said the victim had died before first responders arrived on the scene.
Authorities said firefighters could not safely recover the victim’s body from the shore, and “due to heavy seas and other dangerous conditions, the recovery has been postponed at this time.”
The fire department said it will reassess recovery efforts Wednesday morning.
