Former Steelers coach named Hall of Fame semifinalist

CANTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Buddy Parker has moved one step closer to enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He was among nine individuals who were named semifinalists for the Class of 2026 in the Coach category on Wednesday.

Other semifinalists in the category include: Bill Belichick, Tom Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Chuck Knox, Buddy Parker, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, George Seifert and Mike Shanahan.

The committee will discuss the nine semifinalists at length when it meets virtually Nov. 18 to select one finalist to present to the full selection committee for its consideration when it casts ballots for a new class of enshrinees in early 2026.

Parker won a pair of NFL championships with the Lions. He posted an overall coaching record of 107-76-9 with the Cardinals, Lions and Steelers. He died in 1982 at the age of 68.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 will be announced at “NFL Honors” in San
Francisco in February and enshrined in August in Canton.
