New record for striped bass catch in Ohio

(WKBN) — An angler broke Ohio’s record for the largest striped bass caught in the state.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, the fish was caught Sept. 29 at Kiser Lake in Champaign County, weighing in at 37.375 pounds and 41.81 inches long.

The fish was caught by George Bruggeman, of New Carlisle. He was fishing for bluegill and yellow perch at the time, using a spinning rod spooled with eight-pound line tipped with one-half of a nightcrawler for bait.

Bruggeman’s catch replaces the previous Ohio record Striped Bass record, which was caught in West Branch Reservoir by Mark Chuifo of Ravenna on July 2, 1993, weighing 37.10 pounds and measuring 41.25 inches long.
