Tillamook, one of the top leading cheese and dairy product brands in America, is facing an unusual backlash. Some MAGA-coded nutballs and folks who don’t read very well are waving pitchforks because Tillamook cheese is halal-certified.
Tillamook saw itself trending on X Friday morning after several “America First” types took to the social media platform to decry the brand’s halal certification and the fact that they brand their cheese as vegetarian. Because people usually fail to read thoroughly, this knee-jerk reaction to the cheese company is overblown and completely hilarious.
Here’s one comment from a cheese-hating snowflake, Gunther Eagleman, here:
Tillamook didn’t just slap a new symbol on the package.
The company changed its cheesemaking process years ago, switching to a vegetarian rennet that carries Halal certification. Today, Tillamook says the majority of its cheeses are Halal certified.
That was a deliberate business decision to make the product meet Islamic dietary standards.
They’re free to do it.
And I’m free to say I don’t like it one bit.
Part of us wants to believe that Eagleman’s stance on X is a parody of conservative-leaning ideals, but it appears this person means it. But he’s not alone.

I’ll be honest, this one stings. Tillamook is my go to cheese. It’s usually 2 for 1 at Publix. You can keep your Al-Qaeda cheese Tillamook. What’s a good brand of cheese? Publix has their own brand. I’ll have to research that I guess.
X user @SRGraves_X had a pretty solid response to those looking to boycott the cheese with some cold hard facts:
The internet is apparently losing its f*cking mind because Tillamook cheese is “vegan and halal now.”
First: it’s not vegan. It’s CHEESE. It comes from a f*cking cow.
It’s vegetarian because Tillamook uses fermentation-produced rennet instead of animal rennet. They’ve been doing that since 2016.
And halal certification doesn’t mean an imam performed an exorcism on your cheddar. It means the ingredients and manufacturing process meet halal requirements.
Your cheese is fine, Karen.
Put it on a cracker and calm the f*ck down.
